Republic Bank Steel Band Arrangers’ Workshop
On Monday, November 16, 2009 Republic Bank (Guyana) Limited in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport officially launched the Republic Bank Steel Band Arrangers' Workshop 2009 at the Carifesta Sports Complex, Carifesta Avenue, Georgetown at 15:30h.
Members of Schools, Churches, Joint Services and Private Bandswill be exposed to practical training in a one-week session facilitated by Mr. Ray Holman, a renowned composer, arranger and steel drum performer from Trinidad and Tobago. The workshop concludes on November 24, 2009.
The official Opening Ceremony included a Feature Address by the Honourable Dr. Frank Anthony, Minister of Culture Youth and Sport and the Sponsor's Address was delivered by Mr. Edwin H. Gooding.
This initiative forms part of our Power to Make a Difference outreach for steel pan development in Guyana and aims to offer participants the Power to Learn and Succeed.
Youth Link Apprenticeship Programme 2009/2010 Launch
The second annual Republic Bank Youth Link Apprenticeship Programme was launched at a simple ceremony on, Monday, October 26, 2009, at 15:00h at our Head Office, Promenade Court, 155-156 New Market Street, Georgetown.
A batch of twenty-three Youth Link Apprentices and their guests along with Heads of Schools, Government Officials, Directors and members of staff of Republic Bank were present to mark the occasion.
The programme featured Ms. Patricia Gittens, Child Protection Officer, UNICEF who delivered the main address, while the Bank's Executive Management also delivered addresses. Mrs. Anita Mohabeer, Manager, Human Resources officiated the event.
Power to Make a Difference Academic Achievement Awards Presentation
On Monday, October 12, 2009 at 15:30hrs, Republic Bank (Guyana) Limited hosted a presentation ceremony in honour of the top achievers for the National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA) Larissa Wiltshire; Caribbean Secondary Examination Certificate (CSEC) Kia Persaud and Wainella Isaacs for the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE) for 2009. The presentation took place at the RBL Camp Street Branch, 78-80 Robb and Camp Streets, Georgetown.
As part of the bank’s tradition, the top achievers for the examinations mentioned above were awarded through the Bank's Power to Make a Difference community outreach initiative. Monetary gifts and a plaque were presented to the awardees in the presence of Mr. Roopnarine Tewari, Deputy Chief Education Officer, Ministry of Education and Mr. Edwin H. Gooding, Managing Director, Republic Bank (Guyana) Limited Directors, Executives, parents and members of staff.

Republic Bank (Guyana) Limited Completes Houston Community High School Refurbishment
Republic Bank (Guyana) Limited officially handed over the newly refurbished Houston Community High School on Monday, June 1, 2009 at a special General Assembly.
The $1,400,000 project which was executed over the last five months saw the installation of new lockers and a donation of furniture for the staffroom as well as sixty pairs of desks and benches for the students. The school’s canteen was also refurbished and the fence repainted.
This donation was made under the Bank’s Power to Make a Difference (PMAD)community outreach initiative where the school was identified for assistance to empower its students to Learn and Succeed.
During the simple ceremony, the school choir sang the school’s song and the official presentation was made to Mr. Chetram Jaglall, Headmaster of the Houston Community High School and the students. The Ministry of Education representative Mrs. Lynette Browne Moonsammy, District Education Officer- Secondary Schools was on hand to receive the gift on the Ministry’s behalf.
The official presenters were Republic Bank’s Communication and Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Jonelle Dummett, assisted by Mrs. Ismelia Browne, Assistant Communication and Public Relation Officer.

On Monday, February 9, 2009 at 16:00hrs, Republic Bank (Guyana) Limited hosted a short programme to formally launch the Republic Bank Mashramani Pan-o-rama 2009 Steel Band Competition and officially handed over the newly Refurbished Promenade Gardens Bandstand to the people of Guyana at the Promenade Gardens, Georgetown.
Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport Mr. Keith Booker delivered the Feature Address on behalf of Honourable Minister Dr. Frank Anthony while the Welcome Remarks were delivered by Mr. Edwin H. Gooding, Managing Director. The evening’s proceedings were closed with remarks by His Worship the Mayor Hamilton Green and Ms. Michelle Johnson, Manager, Marketing and Communications chaired the proceedings.
During the programme, His Worship the Mayor of the City of Georgetown Hamilton Green, with the assistance of Mr. Edwin H. Gooding performed the symbolic cutting of the ribbon in acceptance of the newly refurbished Bandstand on behalf of the community.
Invitees include Government Ministers and other functionaries, members of the Board of Directors and Senior Management of Republic Bank and representatives of the Mashramani Secretariat and the neighbouring community.

Republic Bank (Guyana) Limited officially handed over 60 pairs of desks and benches to the Houston Community High School, East Bank Demerara on Tuesday, January 27, 2009. This donation was made under the Bank’s Power to Make a Difference (PMAD) community outreach initiative. The school was identified for refurbishment as part of the PMAD programme for this fiscal year.
The donation was presented to Mrs. Vanessa Critchlow, Headmistress of the Houston Community High School in the presence of the students and Ministry of Education representatives Ms. Chandrakala Ramsammy, Principal Education Officer and Mrs. Myra Pierre-Moore, District Education Officer.
Republic Bank Special Olympics 2009
The Republic Bank Special Olympics 2009 was held on Sunday, March 1, 2009 at the Guyana Defence Force Ground, Camp Ayanganna.
Special Olympians from Georgetown, Linden and Berbice competed in various athletic events. Successful athletes may later qualify for the 2011 World Summer Special Olympics in Greece.
Republic Bank Youth Link Apprentices and staff were on hand to tend the general needs and comforts of participants. Managers also presented medals and ribbons.
The day was completed with the formation of a Peace Circle which symbolized Unity and Equality amongst the participants, official and volunteers.
Career Coach 2009
Republic Bank (Guyana) Limited in partnership with the University of Guyana conducted Career Coach 2009 at the Education Lecture Theatre of the University of Guyana on Wednesday, February 11, 2009 to Friday, February 13, 2009.
Mr. Tota Mangar, Vice Chancellor (ag), delivered the feature address on behalf of the University of Guyana while Mr. Edwin H. Gooding delivered the address on behalf of the Bank.
Career Coach is a professional Programme that exposes final year students of the University of Guyana to the world of work. This programme falls under the Bank’s community outreach initiative, the Power to Make a Difference, the Power to Learn and Succeed.
Career Coach commenced on February 11, 2009 with the formal opening Ceremony in the morning.
On February 12 and 13, fifteen participants will attended mock interview session to gain practical insight into this experience.

At a simple presentation ceremony in her honour Ms. Yogeeta Persaud was awarded the Republic Bank (Guyana) Limited NGSA award on Wednesday August 06, 2008. Ms. Persaud was the most outstanding student at this year’s National Grade Six Assessment Examinations.
Managing Director, Mr. Edwin Gooding, presented the award and extended continued best wishes to Yogeeta.

This includes the top performing students at the National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA), Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) and Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE).
This year our nation saw the exemplary results of Wainella Isaacs who earned the number one position in Guyana and the Caribbean, achieving the highest grades at the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate examinations (CSEC). Republic Bank (Guyana) Limited joins in congratulating this young achiever, and to fulfill a commitment of the Power to Make a Difference guided by the Power to Learn and Succeed, presents Wainella Isaacs with a cheque of $50,000 along with a plaque for The Most Outstanding Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate Achiever. In keeping with celebrating young achievers, Republic Bank (Guyana) Limited also takes time out to award the top five Right Start Account Holders for their outstanding performance at the National Grade Six Assessment- 2007. Although their scores did not place them among the top five students in the country, their performance merits praise.

It is compound knowledge and individual development that prepares us for a golden destiny. The corporate world has grown even more competitive and it takes more than academic qualifications to enter and advance in today’s workforce, therefore it is vital for one to be well rounded in order to project effective individual marketing for the working environment. Republic Bank (Guyana) Limited has realized the need to empower our youth to excel in the workforce. Under The Power to Make a Difference, the Bank has partnered with the University of Guyana to Launch Career Coach.
Career Coach is a two- day workshop, which aimed to provide the students of the University of Guyana with guidelines on qualities the will help ensure their success in the world of work. The workshop comprised four key areas; Your Professional Image, Grooming and Decorum, Preparing your Resume and Preparing for Interviews. Students were given the opportunity to draw from a dynamic panel of local professionals which included Dr. Paloma Mohamed- Lecturer, University of Guyana; Ms. Joyce Sinclair AA; Mrs. Rosamund Addo and Mrs. Shrimanie Mendonca – Manager’s Assistant, Republic Bank (Guyana) Limited who aptly imparted sound advice and guidelines that can be applied to any career of choice.
The final day of the intense and edifying exercise saw ten lucky students who were selected at a drawing, experience mock interviews in which they were able to apply the knowledge received and gain further coaching for the career experience as well. Career Coach coincidently ushers in the Open Career Fair scheduled for Friday, 15 at the University’s Campus, of which the Bank will also participate.
Established for more than forty- five years, the Theatre Guild Playhouse has been a strong foundation for nurturing local theatre in Guyana. Recent years have seen the decline of the institution and the structure that housed the establishment.
Republic Bank (Guyana) Limited joins the drive to restore the Playhouse and is fulfilling a commitment given at the launch of the Power to Make a Difference by donating two million dollars to the restoration project.
