The National Bank of Industry and Commerce Limited (NBIC) launched its "Deal on Wheels" auto financing campaign on Saturday June 25, 2005 at the Everest Cricket Club ground from 11:00am to 5:00pm.This event was opened to the general public and admission was free.

A number of dealers in Motor Vehicles, Auto Spares and Accessories as well as Insurance Companies were present.

A team of NBIC Loans Officers were also in attendance to take applications and provide information on how t o access financing to purchase these items.

The promotional period will run from Monday June 27, 2005 to Friday August 26, 2005.

Interested persons seeking financing for the purchase motor vehicles and auto spares as well refurbishing vehicles can apply at any of NBIC's 10 Branch locations, these are:

Water Street, Camp Street, Savage Street, Vreed-en-hoop, Rosignol, Rosehall, New Amsterdam, Corriverton, Anna Regina, and Linden.

NBIC is inviting everyone to take advantage of the opportunity to enquire about the features and benefits of this offer which include competitive rates, affordable monthly instalments, concessions on equity and a chance to win a prize.

NBIC Scholorship Offer - 01/06/05

In the continued support of academic excellence and increasing our country’s knowledge and skills base, our Bank now expands its education focus with the offer of an annual scholarship in one of the following subject areas at the University of Guyana. These areas have been identified because of (1) their importance to the development of the key local sectors, Agriculture and Forestry and (2) the increasing need for qualified persons in Civil Engineering and Hydraulics.

Below we detail the areas from among which the successful candidate will be chosen.

Please note that ONLY ONE student per year will be selected from among all applicants. The successful applicant will benefit from a full scholarship to attend the University for the duration of his/her selected programme of study. An annual review of the student’s academic and other performance will guide the continuation of the scholarship offer.

  • Faculty of Agriculture & Forestry
    • Degree in Agriculture (Animal Science)
    • Degree in Agriculture (Crop Science)
    • Degree in Agriculture (Soil Science)
    • Degree in Forestry
  • Faculty of Natural Sciences
    • B. Sc. Degree in Agricultural Biology
    • B. Sc. Degree in Coastal Resources Management & Conservation
    • Master of Science Degree in Forest Biology
  • Faculty of Technology
    • B. Sc. Degree in Civil Engineering

In selecting the most suitable candidate, the following criteria will be examined:

    Undergraduate Programmes

    The Applicant must:

    • have been accepted by the University of Guyana for the chosen degree programme
    • demonstrate need for financial assistance
    • demonstrate leadership qualities and commitment to academic and extra – curricular activities
    • be of good character
    • be no more than 25 years old at time of application
    • demonstrate a commitment to the development of Guyana
    • indicate a link between chosen field of study and career goals

    Continuation of scholarship support will be determined by performance – a grade point average of 3.0 is ideal.

    Post Graduate Programmes

    The Applicant must:

    • have been accepted by the University of Guyana to read for the Master’s degree
    • have graduated with a grade point average of at least 3.0
    • demonstrate need for financial assistance
    • demonstrate strong leadership qualities and commitment to academic and extra – curricular activities
    • be of good character
    • be no more than 30 years old at time of application
    • demonstrate a commitment to the development of Guyana
    • demonstrate research skills and involvement in activities that are scientific in nature

    Measurement of Intangibles at both undergraduate and post-graduate levels

    • Leadership qualities and commitment to academic and extra curricular activities
    • Membership / affiliation to youth groups and service organisations
    • Role performed / position held in youth groups and service organisations
    • Extent of involvement (number of organisations, years of service)

      - Good Character

      • References provided by the applicant
      • Infringements of the law

      - Must demonstrate a commitment to the development of Guyana

      • This will be derived from responses to specific questions, re:

      - role individual sees for himself / herself after graduation

      - future plans
