Frequently Asked Questions
  1. What is Visa TravelMoney?
    • Visa TravelMoney is a prepaid card that gives you 24-hour access to your funds in any local currency. It is great for vacation and shopping abroad, business travel or sending money to family abroad.
  2. How do I know if I qualify?
    • Unlike a credit card, there are no qualifying criteria - no checks into your credit history. Just pay a low, one-time fee and Visa TravelMoney is yours!
  3. How is it different from a Credit Card?
    • A credit card provides you with a credit facility based on an assessment of your credit rating. Each month you repay all or a minimum portion of what you spend, depending on the terms of your card. With Visa TravelMoney on the other hand, there are no monthly payments - you simply purchase your card for a minimal, one-time cost, load your money onto your card and access it worldwide in the currency of the country you're in!
  4. Can I use Visa TravelMoney only when I travel?
    • You can use Visa TravelMoney in many different ways - for business travel, shopping or to send money to family or friends abroad…you can even use it right here in Guyana.
  5. How much does it cost?
    • Visa TravelMoney costs you US$10.00 for New/Replacement card fee and a commission of 1.15% of the amount loaded/reloaded. Simply come in to any branch of Republic Bank, pay the activation fee and get your card. After that you simply load your card whenever you want with any amount up to US$5,000 and pay the relevant commission fee.
  6. How does Visa TravelMoney work?
    • Visa TravelMoney is prepaid - that means once you activate, you simply load your money onto your card.

The Dos & Don’ts of Internet Shopping

When shopping online, there are certain precautions you can take to protect yourself against fraud. Here is what you need to know.

Do make sure that the company’s website is secure. A padlock or police badge icon is used to indicate a secure site. If these icons do not appear on the screen, click onto the site’s “Privacy Policy” for information on how secure the site is. Many of these sites utilize encryption technology to scramble account numbers.

Do not purchase goods from a suite that requires unnecessary personal information, bank account numbers, or Internet account passwords.

Do use recommended sites or reputable international companies when shopping online. Companies can be cross-referenced on the net through national and international online business directories.

Do not shop on a website that does not have an address and telephone contact – preferably a 1-800 number A P.O Box address is not acceptable.

Do check out the company’s return/ refund policy before purchasing goods. Ask for a delivery date as well.

Do not pay any online merchants or disclose your account number before you are ready to purchase a product.

Do ask for help if you have any questions. A reputable website would have a “Help” or “FAQ” (Frequently Asked Questions) link which generally answers your questions immediately.

Do not use your name, address, birthday, telephone number or a combination of the four when selecting a password to log on to a site. Never, under any circumstances, use the password for your Internet Service Provider (ISP) account or the password to your bank account (PIN).

Do look for the method of payment instructions and currency of payment before making your purchase. Print out your receipt/ order once you have made your purchase. Check to make sure that you have been billed correctly and that transactions have not been duplicated.

Do not e-shop without knowing your consumer rights. What you know will reduce miscommunication and lower your risk of Internet fraud.

Do be vigilant. Always check your monthly statements to verify transactions. Should you see any transactions that are unknown to you, please call our Customer Service Hotline – 1-(868) 627-3348 and we will block your account number. This must be followed with a written report to ensure that we reverse the transaction.
