Republic Bank Mashramani Panorama Steel Pan Competition 2017

Talented pannists from across the country exhibited much flair and creativity as they performed their pieces at the Republic Bank Mashramani Steel Band Competition 2017. The event was held over two days and was strongly contested.

On Saturday, February 18, 2017 at the Theatre Guild Playhouse, participants competed in the following minor categories:
  • Junior Solo
  • Senior Solo
  • Pan Duet
  • Pan Jazz

Meanwhile, on Sunday, February 19, 2017, the competition for Youth Bands and Large Bands followed at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.

This competition, sponsored by the Bank for the ninth year, continues the Bank’s quest for the sustained development of the nation’s Steel Pan art form as part of the ‘Power to Make a Difference’ initiative.

The results of the competition are as follows:
Junior Solo
  • 1st Place – Hanani Ben Lewi
  • 2nd Place – Akeem Pompey
  • 3rd Place – Reon Miller

Senior Solo
  • 1st Place – Michael Smith
  • 2nd Place – Jovanka Williams
  • 3rd Place – Steven Cameron
Pan Duet
  • 1st Place – Jovanka Williams & Javier Marks
  • 2nd Place – Reon Miller & Darrius Austin
  • 3rd Place – Clayton Daniels & Tarreque Mentore
Jazz Ensemble
  • 1st Place – Kunjaz Steel Ensemble
  • 2nd Place – Pangroove Steel Band
  • 3rd Place – Parkside Steel Orchestra
Small Youth Band
  • 1st Place – Queen’s College
  • 2nd Place –Dolphin Secondary

Large Youth Band
  • 1st Place – GBTI/Buxton Pride Steel Orchestra
  • 2nd Place – PanWave Steel Pan Academy
